Abstract artwork Introduction
The constructions of a man-made environment provoke an emotive response. Varieties of scale and contrasts evident in the environment are a predominant feature of my work.
In my prints I have used lithography to render subtle fine mark making in contrast to screen printing techniques that can build up areas of colour. There are subtle transitions of colour and contrast in the work designed to create the visual space. The coloured forms sometimes go beyond the picture edge to imply a continuum. The significance of colour, form, visual space, gravity and delicate marks are fused together to create one construction.
The subject of my paintings is how we organise ourselves uniformly through technological processes. Our perception of colour can be greatly influenced by technology. For example, computer graphics can present over emphasised, highly contrasted use of colour. In my paintings I have organised colour in a similar way. For example, I have used colour references from classical paintings but present them in a context of how we perceive colour through technological reproduction, such as through a screen or computer.
The interactive pieces are paintings to be manipulated. Individual parts of the painting slide and can be positioned wherever the viewer wishes. This reflects our need to modify and reconfigure work in our environment through computer technology and using the Internet.
