Artistic Background
Nicola exhibits her work consistently in London and in galleries throughout the UK. Her artwork is wide ranging using various print processes and her additional work incorporates acrylic, oil paint and 3-D structures which are interactive artworks.
Nicola’s abstract work is a response to the technological influences in our environment. Her Fingerprint series of prints is an investigation of how our personal identity is affected by digital media, including electronic scanning of our fingerprints used in identity cards.
Additionally, in her abstract print series she is interested in contrasting geometric forms, implying how our lives are structured by technology i.e. in data banks, against more intuitive marks suggesting our emotive element. Formally the prints should represent a unified construction of these ideas.
In her more interactive works, she is incorporating ideas relating to technological coding systems i.e. colour coding and identity coding for example, used on the Internet. As she comments: -”Through the use of computers, we are accustomed to respond to a series of multiple choice questions. Information is formalised and categorised into an accessible language, which can be used as a faster way to receive, manipulate and perceive ideas. The escalation of digital methods in artistic practices is determining our cultural and creative identities”.
